India’s Urea production fell to 293.26 lakh tonnes in 2025-26 from 306.67 lakh tonnes in the preceding year.

State-owned Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd (RCF) on Wednesday said it has signed an MoU with Gail to set up a urea plant in Maharashtra with an annual capacity of 1.27 million tonnes.According to a regulatory filing, RCF and Gail (India) Ltd have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on July 29 for establishing a gas-based fertiliser project in Maharashtra.The plant will be established jointly through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV)."The proposed urea production facility, with a planned capacity of 1.27 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), is envisaged to be established in the Vidharbha region of Maharashtra along GAIL's Mumbai-Nagpur-Jharsuguda Natural Gas Pipeline (MNJPL)," RCF said.The company did not disclose the investment to set up this plant.RCF is one of the leading fertiliser companies in the country.India's Urea production fell to 293.26 lakh tonnes in 2025-26 from 306.67 lakh tonnes in the preceding year.The country's urea imports jumped 83 per cent last fiscal to 103.50 lakh tonnes to meet rising domestic demand, according to government data.Published on July 29, 2026
