Two of the free swimming spots in the River Seine have been closed since Monday due to what Paris authorities describe as 'illegal fuel dumping' further up river.
The swimming sites at Bras Marie and Bercy remain closed on Wednesday due to poor water quality, which Paris city authorities say is linked to an illegal discharge into the water further up river.
Around 3,000 litres of heating oil was dumped into the sewers in Saint-Maur-des-Fossés (Val-de-Marne).
"The oil slick is moving very slowly into the Seine,” Paris mairie told Le Parisien newspaper on Wednesday.
They added that while measures are being put in place to reduce the pollution, it is as present not possible to say when the swimming sites will reopen.
