Beijing-based start-up Moonshot AI is discussing plans for acquiring access to more Nvidia Blackwell AI chips to train its next model, Kimi K4, which is expected to be significantly larger than the K3 model released earlier this month, The Information reported, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter.
The report comes after K3 caused shockwaves this month by approaching the performance of US-produced AI frontier models, while being made available in an open-weight form and being less costly to operate.
The start-up’s reported plans are likely to increase tensions with the US government, which has banned the sale of Blackwell chips to Chinese firms.
