Journalists taken through Kenya's pest control products regulatory process [Silas Nyamweya, Standard]
Regulators and industry stakeholders have engaged journalists in a two-day tour designed to unpack Kenya’s pest control product regulatory framework, tracing the path of agricultural chemicals from testing and approval to retail distribution.
Organised by aaK-Grow and the Pest Control Products Board (PCPB), the initiative combined technical briefings with site visits across Nairobi and Kirinyaga counties to showcase how pesticides are monitored for quality, safety, and compliance.
On the first day, PCPB officials detailed the legal and scientific steps required to register pest control products in Kenya, including initial application, laboratory evaluation, licensing, and post-registration market surveillance.
During a tour of the board's laboratories, officials demonstrated how analytical equipment is used to test product formulations for efficacy and safety before market authorisation.
