National champion Prestina Ochonogor has been cleared to compete in the women’s long jump at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after organisers reversed an earlier decision that ruled her ineligible, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
An official of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria confirmed the development to our correspondent on Tuesday, ending days of uncertainty over the 19-year-old’s participation.
In a letter sent to Team Nigeria on Sunday and signed by the Games’ Technical Delegate, Chris Cohen, organisers had stated that Ochonogor could not be added to the final entry list because she was not included in Nigeria’s original submission.
Nigeria had sought to include both Ochonogor and Ruth Usoro after the withdrawal of multiple Commonwealth medallist Ese Brume, but the request was initially rejected.
However, the AFN official confirmed on Tuesday that the issue had been resolved, with Ochonogor now eligible to compete in the women’s long jump final scheduled for Saturday.
