Israeli activity near Tayasir checkpoint fuels fears of new settlement in West Bank
LONDON: Israeli forces on Tuesday brought additional mobile homes to the area near the Tayasir military checkpoint, east of Tubas in the northern West Bank, in what Palestinian officials say is part of a plan to establish a new settlement.
Mutaz Bisharat, a Palestinian official in Tubas, said the Israeli military base was evacuated more than two decades ago and later transferred to a settlement outpost run by a local council with Israeli government backing.
“Today, the Goder outpost is being established near the Tayasir checkpoint, where the local settlement council has brought dozens of caravans onto the site and begun setting up the settlement,” Bisharat told Arab News.
Local leaders say the latest move reflects a broader pattern of settlement expansion in the area.
