An employee of the United National Congress Caroni East constituency office has been placed on immediate administrative leave after allegations involving the staff member surfaced on social media.In a statement issued yesterday, Caroni East MP Dr Rishad Seecheran said the office became aware of allegations involving one of its employees that had been circulating on Facebook.“Upon being made aware of these allegations, immediate administrative action was taken. The employee in question has been sent on administrative leave with immediate effect, pending an investigation by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service,” the statement said.Seecheran said the Caroni East office remained committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, professionalism and accountability.“Where such matters arise, appropriate action is taken to ensure that they are addressed thoroughly, fairly and in accordance with due process,” he said.The MP said it would be inappropriate to comment further while the matter is under investigation.“We are committed to ensuring that the process is conducted fairly. We ask for the public’s understanding and patience as this process unfolds thoroughly and without prejudice to any party involved.”The statement did not disclose the nature of the allegations and no criminal charges have been announced.However, it said further updates would be provided when appropriate.
