AN 82-year-old woman died after a fire damaged part of a house at Allick Terrace, Bagatelle, on Sunday afternoon.The deceased has been identified as Khairun Hosein, of Allick Terrace, Bagatelle.According to police, at about 3.45 p.m., a 40-year-old relative was at the two-storey, five-bedroom concrete house when she detected the smell of smoke.She went outside onto the roadway and saw that a room on the northern side of the second floor was on fire. She alerted nearby neighbours, who formed a bucket brigade and managed to contain the blaze before the arrival of the Fire Service.Firefighters from the Four Roads Fire Station, led by fire officer Barran, arrived and continued checks inside the house. While searching the building with the relative, they discovered Hosein’s body in an upstairs bedroom. Police said she had been burnt beyond recognition.At about 4.15 p.m., Acting Cpl Lashley, PC Belfon and PC Simmons arrived at the scene. Officers were taken to the damaged bedroom on the northern side of the second floor, where they found Hosein’s body in a foetal position on a metal bed frame.The scene was processed and photographed by Western Division Crime Scene Investigators Cpl Chandler and PC George.Fire Station Officer Pollard visited the scene but was unable to determine the cause of the fire and requested assistance from the Fire Prevention Unit.The Fire Prevention Unit led by Fire Sub Officer Trimmingham estimated the damage to the property at $250,000. The house was supplied with electricity and water but was not insured.Also visiting the scene were Acting ASP Phillip and Inspector Jack, who made observations.
