BUENOS AIRES, July 28. /TASS/. Keiko Fujimori has been sworn in as Peru’s first female president. The ceremony was broadcast on Peru TV.
"I, Keiko Fujimori, swear that I will faithfully fulfill the duties of president entrusted to me for the term of 2026-2031," she said.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the presidents of Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile - Javier Milei, Rodrigo Paz, and Jose Antonio Kast.
Keiko Fujimori, 51, is the daughter of Peru’s ex-President Alberto Fujimori, who occupied office from 1990 to 2000 and was sentenced to 25 years behind bars for human rights violations. Before winning the 2026 presidential election, she vied for the office three times - in 2011, 2016, and 2021, but each time lost in the runoff election.
Her political program includes the use of military intelligence and other army units to fight against violence and organized crime, as well as the transfer the control over the penitentiary system to the military for the period of its reforming. He economic plan envisages encouraging the development of production sectors, including the mining and processing industries, and energy to boost their competitiveness, as well as creating new jobs, and supporting businesses. She also stands for closer cooperation with the United States and right-wing leaders of regional countries.
