Japan’s worst earthquake in two years has caused widespread damage and destruction on the southern island of Kyushu.

Rescuers have been attempting to find dozens of workers who are unaccounted for after a shopping centre partially collapsed and then exploded. At least 50 people were injured, tens of thousands have been left without power.

The quake struck the southwestern prefecture of Kumamoto – where residents have been warned to stay on high alert for further seismic activity in the coming days.
