Residents of several villages in Nilakottai taluk on Monday protested in front of Dindigul Collectorate demanding the closure of stone quarries operating in the area.The residents complained that the operation of these stone quarries in the area had caused serious health issues that included respiratory problems.There was an altercation at the Collectorate after the police told them that only five persons would be allowed to enter the office to submit the petition. The residents staged a dharna in front of the office. However, after the officials held talks with the residents, they agreed to withdraw the protest. Five representatives submitted their petition.
