The Bantwal Town police on Tuesday, took custody of the 22-year-old Chethan, who is accused of hacking 21-year-old Lavanya to death on July 16 at B. C. Road KSRTC Bus Stand.Soon after the incident, the police traced him and he was found to have consumed a poisonous substance. He was admitted to Government Wenlock Hospital, Mangaluru. Following his discharge on Tuesday, the police arrested him for murder and produced before the jurisdictional magistrate. The court granted request of police to keep Chethan in police custody for four days and further examine him.Chethan reportedly had unrequited love for victim Lavanya. On July 16, he boarded the bus in B.C. Road KSRTC bus stand in which Lavanya was seated. Lavanya was on her way to her house in Kappepadavu village in Bantwal. As Lavanya got off the bus, Chetan followed her and hacked her to death in full public view. He abandoned the machete used for attacking Lavanya and ran away.
