The doctors of Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital successfully performed two knee replacement surgeries on Tuesday.Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Dean, TKMCH, Ebenezer Joel Kumar said the orthopaedic surgery department of TKMCH, which was giving all kinds of treatment for orthopaedic complications and hence has conducted 421 surgeries so far, successfully performed two knee replacement surgeries on Tuesday.Patients Subbulakshmi, 54, of Thoothukudi and Solaiyappan, 74, of Vilathikulam, who were suffering from acute pain in the knee due to age, could not walk. After a range of investigations, free knee replacement surgeries were done on Tuesday, which could have cost anywhere between ₹2.50 lakh and ₹4 lakh in private hospitals.“Since both the surgeries were performed under Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Insurance Scheme, the procedure did not cost any expense to the patients,” Dr. Ebenezer said.The Dean said the patients suffering from acute pain in the joints should make use of the facilities available in TKMCH.
