Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao alleged that the Congress government’s decision to issue ‘Family Register Certificates’ was a “backdoor attempt to legitimise Rohingya and Bangladeshi vote banks”.
He accused the Revanth Reddy government of continuing its policy of “appeasement” and claimed that it was acting at the behest of the AIMIM as it had publicly demanded issuance of such certificates to prevent names from being deleted during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The decision raised serious constitutional, legal, electoral and national security concerns. The government, he alleged, was projecting the certificates as acceptable documents under the revision process to help so-called “undocumented people”.
“This is a calculated attempt to protect and expand the illegal vote-bank politics nurtured by the Congress, BRS and AIMIM,” said Mr. Rao on Tuesday. Such certificates had traditionally been issued in matters relating to government employees and expanding their scope and issuing them widely during the SIR process could create significant scope for misuse and manipulation, he claimed.
These certificates, generated using ration card records and related family data, merely establish family composition and cannot be treated as proof of Indian citizenship, he said and asserted that if issued without proper verification of citizenship, it could facilitate the “integration of illegal immigrants” into the State’s administrative framework, posing risks to national security and public order.
