Kerala Police will implement a joint action plan in collaboration with public and private sector banks to prevent cyber financial frauds in the State. State Police Chief (SPC) Ravada A. Chandrasekhar convened a State-level coordination meeting attended by officials of the State Cyber Division and representatives of various banks at the police headquarters here on Tuesday.Addressing media persons later, Mr. Chandrasekhar said a Joint Cyber Committee comprising representatives from the Kerala Police and banks will be constituted to monitor cybercrimes, examining complaints and facilitating coordinated follow-up action to improve the speed and efficiency of investigations.The proposed coordination mechanism will enable the police to respond more effectively to emerging cyber threats, including rapidly evolving scams such as ‘digital arrest’ frauds. The State Cyber Division would implement all measures in accordance with the guidelines and framework laid down by the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), functioning under the Ministry of Home Affairs.The police are also strengthening bank account analysis, collection of digital evidence and joint investigations with banks and other relevant agencies. Besides, a dedicated 24-hour call centre has been operationalised to improve the response to cyber crime complaints.Operation Cy-HuntThe SPC pointed out that the State Cyber Division has already implemented ‘Operation Cy-Hunt’ aimed at countering cybercrimes. Special investigations and coordinated enforcement drives are being carried out across various districts to identify and arrest those involved in cyber-enabled financial offences. The Kerala Police have thus far managed to block transactions amounting to nearly ₹78 crore lost in cyber frauds, of which around 5 per cent of the amount has been restored to the original accounts. As part of such efforts, cyber investigators have intensified the identification of mule accounts (bank accounts used to receive and transfer money obtained through fraudulent means). A State-wide assessment had found Ernakulam and Malappuram to be hotspots in the prevalence of mule accounts, the officer pointed out. Senior police officers including ADGP (Law and Order) P.
