The Communist Party of India has sought an explanation from Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan on the delay in notifying the portfolios of Ministers in the Cabinet headed by Chief Minister and AINRC founder N. Rangasamy in Puducherry. In a statement, CPI secretary A. M. Saleem said the Chief Minister was facing criticism for not allocating portfolios even two months after he assumed office. After facing much criticism, the Chief Minister submitted the list to the Lt. Governor on July 20. However, the list was yet to be notified, the release said. The delay in notifying the list, the CPI leader said, gives an impression that the Lt. Governor’s Office was “acting in favour” of the ruling AINRC’s ally, the BJP. The allocation of portfolios was the sole discretion of the Chief Minister.“Puducherry was one of the five States that went to polls recently. The results were announced on May 4 and except for Puducherry, the other States have moved ahead, convened their Assembly and presented the Budget. The Constitutional principles are being undermined in Puducherry. The Lt. Governor owes an explanation to the people for the delay in notifying the portfolios allocated to the Ministers after the Chief Minister submitted the list to him,” he said.
