However, Iran does potentially possess the weapons to carry out such actions,” he said.Kovalenko’s statement comes days after Iran condemned a Ukrainian drone strike on vessels in the Caspian Sea and warned it reserved the right to defend its national interests.Iran’s foreign ministry said it could take “appropriate action” following what it described as an attack on a commercial vessel. However, Ukrainian officials have said the operation targeted ships involved in military cooperation between Moscow and Tehran.President Volodymyr Zelensky previously said Ukrainian forces struck Russian vessels in the Caspian Sea used to transport military cargo. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) later identified the targets as the sanctioned cargo ships Port Olya 2 and Begey, alleging they were part of military logistics between Russia and Iran.
