The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will launch a nationwide ‘Samrasata Sankalp Abhiyan’ from July 29, 2026, to February 20, 2027, to mark the 650th birth anniversary of Sant Ravidas Maharaj and promote his ideals of equality, social justice and social harmony.

In a press release on Tuesday, Andhra Pradesh BJP Media In-charge Dileep Kilaru described Sant Ravidas as one of the foremost reformers of the Bhakti movement, whose teachings challenged caste discrimination and upheld human dignity, compassion and devotion. He said the saint’s vision of ‘Begampura’ — a society free from fear, discrimination and inequality — continues to inspire India’s pursuit of inclusive development and social harmony.

The campaign will commence on Guru Purnima with the ‘Samrasata Deep Mahotsav’, during which lamps will be lit in 51,000 temples across the country. As part of the event, 11,000 lamps will also be lit at Sant Ravidas Ghat in Varanasi.

He said sacred soil from Sant Ravidas’ birthplace at Sri Govardhanpur in Varanasi would be taken across the country under the Kalash Vandan Abhiyan. A month-long Shri Guru Ravidas Maharaj Samrasata Yatra will also be organised from Dera Sach Khand Ballan in Jalandhar to Govardhanpur from October 5 to November 5. The yatra will feature bhajans, seminars and cultural programmes.
