One star of ITV's flagship breakfast show Good Morning Britain has stepped down after three years on air and is moving on for a new job which will be based in the United States13:13, 28 Jul 2026Updated 13:13, 28 Jul 2026Good Morning Britain star James Gooderson has announced that he is stepping down from the ITV show. The reporter made his debut on the broadcaster three years ago, and as well as GMB, he has been seen across ITV News, and ITVX during his time on air.‌But on Monday, he announced that he is now set to leave ITV for good and is taking up a new role in the United States.‌In a post on LinkedIn, he said: "After a fantastic 3 years at ITV and ITV News I've joined Feature Story News as a Washington Correspondent. I'll be working out of the DC office covering President Trump and the latest political news on Capitol Hill for a number of international news clients.‌"Alongside reporting in Washington I'll also be reporting across the US ahead of the midterms. Can't wait to get started!"Last week, hosts Ed Balls and Susanna Reid announced on air that Stuart Earl, who has served as a director on GMB for a decade, was leaving the show.‌Susanna said: "We just want to, before we go, say a huge goodbye to our amazing director, Stuart. He's getting on his motorbike and he's off, he's going to be riding over some mountains somewhere. But he's been with us for ten years and we are grateful for every minute. Stuart, thank you. Good luck, goodbye."Ed added: "Stuart, you are a total genius. You have been so brilliant. You support us so much, thank you very, very much."‌Over the last year, Good Morning Britain and several other ITV programmes have been hit by huge budget cuts. In January, GMB, moved out of Television Centre into a smaller studio, along with Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women.Amongst the changes, Lorraine Kelly's eponymous chat show was cut from one hour to just 30 minutes, and, along with Loose Women, now only airs for 30 weeks out of the year instead of 52.Amid the chaos, Susanna Reid, Ed Balls, Kate Garraway Ranvir Singh and Richard Madeley have kept their regular rotating jobs as hosts of Good Morning Britain. Meanwhile, Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard have continued front This Morning, with Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary stepping in as relief presenters.‌Just recently, Lorraine, who has been a part of ITV for more than 40 years, spoke out about the cuts and how tough it was on her staff.Speaking to Saga magazine when asked how she felt about what happened, Lorraine said: “Really rubbish. A lot of my team got made redundant. It was really hard and harder for them. We were very close-knit, but it’s all about budget. All television shows are in the same boat, we’re not alone.”Announcing the changes earlier last year, Kevin Lygo, Managing Director of ITV’s Media and Entertainment Division, previously said: “Daytime is a really important part of what we do, and these scheduling and production changes will enable us to continue to deliver a schedule providing viewers with the news, debate and discussion they love from the presenters they know and trust as well generating savings which will allow us to reinvest across the programme budget in other genres.Article continues below"These changes also allow us to consolidate our news operations and expand our national, international and regional news output and to build upon our proud history of trusted journalism at a time when our viewers need accurate, unbiased news coverage more than ever.”Like this story?
