Why did a 29-year-old man develop repeated episodes of neurological symptoms? That's what Ghita Lahmam, MD, of Hassan II University of Casablanca in Morocco, and colleagues had to determine. As they described in Oxford Medical Case Reports, the patient had been experiencing "dozens" of daily paroxysms of hyperkinetic choreo-dystonic movements affecting the left side of the face and body.
The episodes were not painful, the patient said, nor did they affect his consciousness. The movements were brief and seemed to be triggered when he moved.
