Amazon has announced progress on a series of water sustainability projects in India.

According to the hyperscaler, none of the company’s data centers in the country use water for cooling purposes and instead rely on air-cooled chillers. When it does utilize water for landscaping or biodiversity maintenance, it prioritizes recycled sewage water rather than potable water.

Alongside this, the company announced that it achieved water positivity in India ahead of its 2027 target, claiming to return 120 percent of the water it used across its direct operations.

As part of this effort, Amazon announced it is investing more than ₹62 crore ($7.4 million) towards water stewardship initiatives across the country, with the projects expected to replenish more than four billion liters of water annually once completed.
