Russians fabricated a BBC News video
Russian Telegram channels are circulating a video bearing the BBC News logo claiming that Ukraine's First Lady Olena Zelenska wore a pendant, Dragonfly woman with Open Wings, by French master Rene Lalique, worth around EUR 4.5 million, to the Coalition of the Willing summit held in Paris on July 13, 2026. The claim says the jewelry was stolen from the Lalique Museum on July 6, 2026.
This is fake. No such video has been published on BBC News' official platforms. Moreover, the media outlet did not post either the purported summit video or any report about the museum robbery on its social media accounts.
In the original video circulated by international media, Zelenska is not wearing any such jewelry. Her image was likely digitally manipulated or generated using deepfake technology.
The video was also compiled from several clips available online. Some of the footage, in particular, was taken from a report by the French-language channel Mosaik Cristal about the museum robbery.
