Hotels and roadside eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar have been barred from cooking and serving non-vegetarian food during the pilgrimage, while owners have been directed to display their licences and other required documents, officials said on Tuesday.Ahead of the Kanwar Yatra, which begins on July 30, the food safety department has launched its annual inspection drive across the yatra route to check compliance with food safety norms.Also Read: Tamil Nadu civic polls likely to be deferred to early 2027"Cooking and serving non-vegetarian foods in hotels and dhabas have been banned on the Kanwar Yatra route. The hotel and dhaba owners have also been told not to use onions and garlic in cooking and serving food," Assistant Commissioner Food (Muzaffarnagar) Archana Dheeran on Tuesday told PTI."Hotels and dhabas have been following this norm every year. Any new hotel or dhaba, which comes up, is informed about this by the department," she said.Dheeran said six teams have been deployed to inspect food items at hotels and roadside eateries along the route."Stale food will not be allowed in these dhabas," Dheeran said.Also Read: Parliamentary panel summons Meta, Google, X and Snapchat over social media regulationShe said eateries have also been instructed to display owners' details, licences and Food Safety Connect app QR codes as part of food safety measures.The district administration has fixed standard rates for 21 essential items to prevent overcharging. The Food Safety Department has also directed cooks to wear gloves while preparing food, and prohibited the use of artificial colours in food items.(With inputs from PTI)
