Google sister company Waymo is exploring a split with ride-hailing app partner Uber, as the two companies take different directions in a fierce lobbying battle over the future of autonomous vehicles, the Financial Times reported.
Waymo has held internal talks about ending its current deals with Uber in Austin and Atlanta, and has already informed Uber that it plans to enter those markets independently in 2028, when allowed for under the firms’ contract, the report said.
Waymo initially plans to offer direct bookings in Austin and Atlanta over its own app, alongside doing so through the Uber app, similar to a deal between Uber and Lyft in Nashville.
