But our football is back now, and we’re pretty excited.Training camps are open across the NFL, and the Hall of Fame Game kicks off next week, so we’re checking in on what’s new for all 32 teams and looking at how they stack up heading into the 2026 season.1. Los Angeles RamsLast season: 12-5Last ranking: 5What’s new? Myles GarrettAnd maybe Aaron Donald? The Rams traded for the best defensive end in the league, and there has been summer scuttlebutt that they could coax one of the best defensive tackles of the last 20 years out of retirement. They also added two new — and pricey — cornerbacks. Unless this wide receiver corps collapses under the weight of age and extracurricular activities, Los Angeles has everything it needs for another Super Bowl run.Would a return to Los Angeles Rams diminish Aaron Donald's NFL career?Robert Mays2. Denver BroncosLast season: 14-3Last ranking: 3What’s new? The play caller …… for some reason. Head coach Sean Payton turned over play-calling duties to 31-year-old offensive coordinator Davis Webb in the offseason, either as a guard against Webb taking another job or because of a legitimate belief that it will improve the offense. It’s going to be hard to improve on Payton in that area, though. The good news is they added wide receiver Jaylen Waddle and have a defense full of pit bulls.Does more blitzing correlate to a top defense in the NFL?Robert Mays3. Buffalo BillsLast season: 12-5Last ranking: 8What’s new? The stadiumAfter 53 years in one of the league’s quaintest venues, the Bills are moving into a new and (maybe) improved Highmark Stadium this year. In addition, they’ve added wide receiver D.J. Moore to an offense that didn’t see any significant losses. With former offensive coordinator Joe Brady now the head coach, this team is going to win with offense, if it wins this year.4. New England PatriotsLast season: 14-3Last ranking: 2What’s new? A.J. BrownDoes Brown really count as new, considering almost everyone in the league knew for months he was going to be traded from Philadelphia to New England, which finally happened in June? The Patriots also added Romeo Doubs to the receiving corps. If Drake Maye is healthy and in 2025 regular-season form and the left side of the offensive line holds up, coach Mike Vrabel and company might contend again.Why the Patriots traded for A.J. The ownerA group led by the family of Sun Microsystems co-founder Vinod Khosla just bought the reigning Super Bowl champions. All the other offseason news is about losses as running back Kenneth Walker, outside linebacker Boye Mafe and defensive backs Coby Bryant and Tariq Woolen are all gone via free agency. A repeat is not going to be easy.6. Houston TexansLast season: 12-5Last ranking: 9What’s new? The offensive lineWith free-agent additions Wyatt Teller and Braden Smith, and first-round draft pick Keylan Rutledge, Houston looks to have three new starters up front on offense. Anything to make QB C.J. Stroud more comfortable and bolster an anemic run game. The Texans’ fourth-year quarterback ranks 25th in the league in EPA per dropback (0.01) since his breakout rookie season, and the team was 30th last year in EPA/carry. The offseason addition of veteran David Montgomery should help with that.7. San Francisco 49ersLast season: 12-5Last ranking: 4What’s new? The wide receiver roomJauan Jennings and Kendrick Bourne are gone, and Brandon Aiyuk is in (maybe permanent?) limbo. But Mike Evans, Christian Kirk and surprise second-round draft pick De’Zhaun Stribling are Niners now. As long as star running back Christian McCaffrey stays healthy, the receivers won’t be the focal point of the offense anyway. But it’s worth noting McCaffrey tallied a career-high 413 regular-season touches last year, along with 37 more in the playoffs.How Fred Warner is preparing to bounce back from injuryDan PompeiCan new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel take quarterback Justin Herbert’s game to the next level? The offensive coordinatorMike McDaniel rehabilitated QB Tua Tagovailoa’s confidence and career briefly when he became the Dolphins’ head coach in 2022. If he can work his magic with Justin Herbert, the Chargers might be the next hot thing in the AFC West. Los Angeles is also rebuilding its offensive line again. This is an important season for Herbert, the 28-year-old quarterback whose regular-season flashes have consistently turned into playoff flameouts.Do Chargers have NFL's best collection of stars on rookie contracts?Derrik Klassen9. Philadelphia EaglesLast season: 11-6Last ranking: 7What’s new? The social media sceneA.J. Brown and his cryptic social media posts are gone. Non-Eagles fans will kind of miss them, honestly. Philly added Dontayvion Wicks, Makai Lemon, Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore to the receiving corps in response. There’s a new offensive coordinator, too, and Sean Mannion is Jalen Hurts’ sixth play caller in his seven-year pro career. (He also had four different OCs in college.)10. Detroit LionsLast season: 9-8Last ranking: 13What’s new? The vibesCornerback Terrion Arnold’s arrest and subsequent release didn’t help, but it’s bigger than that. The Lions lost six of their final 10 games last year to miss the playoffs. The Sonic and Knuckles backfield is no more because Knuckles (David Montgomery) is in Houston. Long-locked linebacker Alex Anzalone is gone. This will be coach Dan Campbell’s biggest test since turning this franchise around in the first place.Should Detroit Lions be considered favorites to win NFC North?Robert Mays and Derrik Klassen11. Jacksonville JaguarsLast season: 13-4Last ranking: 10What’s new? The record, probablyJacksonville appears ready to ride the momentum from last year. The Jaguars didn’t make any notable offseason additions and seem to feel comfortable that coach Liam Coen’s success will continue and last year’s plus-13 turnover margin (the third-best mark in the league) will carry over. They could be right, but replacing running back Travis Etienne and linebacker Devin Lloyd won’t be easy.12. Chicago BearsLast season: 11-6Last ranking: 6What’s new? Caleb Williams’ workloadAfter a breakout 2025, Chicago’s most notable offseason move was trading D.J. Moore to Buffalo for a draft pick. Coach Ben Johnson is betting on himself and his young quarterback to carry on the momentum, and Williams still has room to grow. He finished 13th last year in EPA/dropback (0.08), 32nd in completion percentage (58.1) and 32nd in off-target rate (14.6 percent).Is regression coming for Chicago Bears in 2026? Robert Mays13. Dallas CowboysLast season: 7-9-1Last ranking: 17What’s new? The defensive planAnd it’s probably time. In the past three seasons, Dallas has fielded the league’s eighth-best offense (based on EPA/game), while having a bottom-five defense. Defensive coordinator Christian Parker came over from Philadelphia in the offseason, and the Cowboys added pass rusher Rashan Gary via trade as well as safety Caleb Downs and defensive lineman Malachi Lawrence with first-round picks.14. Cincinnati BengalsLast season: 6-11Last ranking: 23What’s new? Joe Burrow is healthy?Forgive the question mark, Bengals fans, but you have to admit it has been an issue. Burrow played only eight games last year due to a turf toe injury. He has failed to hit the 11-game mark in half of his six seasons. The good news is he might have a good defense now after the offseason acquisitions of defensive linemen Dexter Lawrence, Jonathan Allen and Boye Mafe.15. Green Bay PackersLast season: 9-7-1Last ranking: 14What’s new? Matt LaFleur’s time clockThe Packers’ 46-year-old coach is fifth among active coaches in winning percentage (65.4), but Green Bay hasn’t won a playoff game since the 2023 season and has won only one since the 2020 season. The Packers lost five straight to end last season, and they lost a lot in the offseason (Dontayvion Wicks, Rashan Gary, Romeo Doubs, Quay Walker) without bringing much back. Jordan Love can be really good, and he will need to be this year to help keep LaFleur off the hot seat.16. Baltimore RavensLast season: 8-9Last ranking: 12What’s new? Patrick Ricard is goneMaybe fullback free-agent moves don’t light your fire, but Ricard leaving Baltimore feels almost as foundational as coach John Harbaugh’s exit. It’ll be weird seeing both of them with the Giants. Only five Ravens have played more snaps than Ricard since he joined the team out of the University of Maine in 2017. Only two fullbacks in the NFL (Kyle Juszczyk and C.J. Ham) have played more snaps in that span. Oh yeah, QB Lamar Jackson should be healthy, too.Coach Mike McCarthy and QB Aaron Rodgers achieved plenty of success with the Packers from 2006 to 2018. It’s 2018 againThat’s the last time new Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy and old Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers were a team. Their last relationship didn’t end on great terms, but it did result in nine playoff wins and a Super Bowl title between 2009 and 2016. Pittsburgh also traded for wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. in hopes of giving some juice to its pop-gun offense. Rodgers was 33rd in the league last year in air yards per attempt (6.0).18. Kansas City ChiefsLast season: 6-11Last ranking: 20What’s new? The lack of expectationsNobody is just penciling the Chiefs into the AFC Championship Game anymore. QB Patrick Mahomes and receiver Rashee Rice are both rehabbing knee injuries, and Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker was the only notable addition. Three-quarters of the starting secondary (Trent McDuffie, Jaylen Watson and Bryan Cook) is gone. Tight end Travis Kelce is almost 37 and coming off his lowest-catch season since 2015. Tampa Bay BuccaneersLast season: 8-9Last ranking: 16What’s new? The offensive coordinator, againCoach Todd Bowles is on his fourth offensive coordinator in his four years as the Buccaneers’ head coach. His first two hires were home runs, as Dave Canales and Liam Coen became head coaches. Last year, it was Josh Grizzard, who was fired. This time, Bowles is trying Zac Robinson, who was with the Falcons the past two years before coach Raheem Morris’ staff was fired. Also, about half of the defensive depth chart will be new.Is 2026 last chance for this version of Tampa Bay Buccaneers?Robert Mays20. Minnesota VikingsLast season: 9-8Last ranking: 19What’s new? Probably the quarterbackThe Vikings are pushing the idea that Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy are in a legitimate quarterback competition, but nobody seems to believe them. McCarthy enters his third NFL season having played just 10 games and having not played very well (38th last year in EPA/dropback). Murray, meanwhile, comes in on a one-year free-agent deal, trying to prove he’s capable of a second act in the league.21. Indianapolis ColtsLast season: 8-9Last ranking: 21What’s new? Shane Steichen’s job securityIf Indianapolis doesn’t find its early 2025 form this season, Steichen will be the hottest candidate on the offensive coordinator market in January. The Colts lost seven straight to end the season, which dropped Steichen below .500 in three years in Indy (25-26). The defense has been overhauled, but QB Daniel Jones is coming back from a December Achilles tear, and Anthony Richardson is now competing just to be Jones’ primary backup.Was Daniel Jones declining before season-ending injury in 2025?Robert Mays22. Carolina PanthersLast season: 8-9Last ranking: 18What’s new? The trophy caseThe Panthers won the NFC South last year despite finishing the regular season with a losing record, dropping three of their final four games, finishing 23rd in the NFL in scoring margin (minus-69) and being outside the top 20 in both offensive and defensive EPA. Most of the offseason emphasis was on improving the defense, which they hope to have done after paying big money to pass rusher Jaelan Phillips and LB Devin Lloyd.How the Panthers move forward without Nic ScourtonJoseph Person23. Washington CommandersLast season: 5-12Last ranking: 26What’s new? The defenseWashington signed 11 defensive free agents, and more than half of them are probably going to start, an admission that QB Jayden Daniels’ return to full health won’t be enough without a better defense. The Commanders were 27th in the league last year in points allowed (26.5), and coach Dan Quinn enters the season on the hot seat.24. Atlanta FalconsLast season: 8-9Last ranking: 22What’s new? The executive branchOwner Arthur Blank wanted Matt Ryan back so badly that he invented a position for him, and the franchise’s all-time leading passer is now the royally titled president of football (not football operations, just football). Ryan’s first two decrees were hiring veteran head coach Kevin Stefanski and first-time general manager Ian Cunningham. The trio now has to break the league’s second-longest active streak of not making the postseason (eight years).25. New Orleans SaintsLast season: 6-11Last ranking: 24What’s new? Alvin Kamara is not the starter.But he is back. That was in doubt after the free-agent addition of running back Travis Etienne, but Kamara reworked his deal and will return for his 10th season in New Orleans. It’s going to be odd not seeing him carry the load in the backfield. He is one of only five players in the league with more than 2,000 offensive touches (and 10,000 scrimmage yards) since 2018.Who will be the headlining act as Kirk Cousins (8) and Fernando Mendoza (15) team up in Las Vegas? The quarterback roomKirk Cousins’ check-cashing tour stops in Vegas this year, where he signed a one-year, $11.3 million deal to mentor No. 1 draft pick Fernando Mendoza. It is Cousins’ fourth NFL team, and he has earned $331.5 million, which ranks third in league history, according to Over The Cap. How long Mendoza’s apprenticeship lasts is the No. 1 question for the Raiders, who also have a new head coach in Klint Kubiak.27. Cleveland BrownsLast season: 5-12Last ranking: 27What’s new? Deshaun Watson is healthy.In exchange for a $230 million guaranteed contract, the Browns have gotten 19 games and nine wins out of Watson. He’s back for the final year of his deal after missing 10 games in 2024 and all of 2025 due to a twice-torn Achilles. He and Shedeur Sanders will compete for the starting job under new coach Todd Monken. Oh, and Myles Garrett is gone, after being traded to the Rams.Is Jared Verse a better long-term asset than Myles Garrett?Robert Mays28. New York GiantsLast season: 4-13Last ranking: 28What’s new? The defensive lineHow good was Dexter Lawrence (who was traded to Cincinnati for the No. 10 pick, which turned into OT Francis Mauigoa)? So good that New York added seven new defensive linemen with a combined 48 years of NFL experience in hopes of filling his shoes. New Giants coach John Harbaugh also added first-round linebacker Arvell Reese to his defense.29. Tennessee TitansLast season: 3-14Last ranking: 32What’s new? Pretty much everythingThe Titans will have new uniforms, a new logo and a new head coach when the season begins (with a new stadium just a year away). A big change was warranted. No team has won fewer games than Tennessee (19) over the past four years. Now, Robert Saleh is in charge of turning things around and accelerating quarterback Cam Ward’s development. The No. 1 pick from 2024 finished 31st in the league last year in passer rating.30. Arizona CardinalsLast season: 3-14Last ranking: 30What’s new? Kyler Murray is gone.Arizona and Murray tried to make it work. The No. 1 pick in the 2019 draft spent seven years wandering the desert, while the Cardinals managed to put together one winning season and no playoff wins. Now it’s Jacoby Brissett and what should be a full commitment to a rebuild under new head coach Mike LaFleur.31. New York JetsLast season: 3-14Last ranking: 31What’s new? The early bird specialCoach Aaron Glenn’s team is going to be eating dinner at 5:30 p.m. if all these old guys they added in free agency have their say. The Jets offseason didn’t scream planning for the future after bringing in Demario Davis (37), Geno Smith (35), David Onyemata (33), Tim Patrick (32) and Minkah Fitzpatrick (29). Glenn knows he has to win now or there won’t be a future for him.32. Miami DolphinsLast season: 7-10Last ranking: 25What’s new? The passing gameTua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle are gone, along with head coach Mike McDaniel. In their place are Malik Willis, on a big deal at quarterback, and seven journeyman or rookie wide receivers. The Dolphins will be in the race for the No. 1 pick, but may not be in the quarterback market if Willis pays off their investment.
