A 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck Japan's southern Kumamoto prefecture, triggering tsunami warnings and emergency alerts across seven prefectures on Kyushu island.
About 40,000 homes lost power and rail services, including high-speed bullet trains, were suspended following the quake.
