Naga Munchetty has quit BBC Breakfast after 17 years and will now front a new breakfast show for BBC 5 Live09:35, 28 Jul 2026Updated 09:47, 28 Jul 2026Naga Munchetty has quit BBC Breakfast after 17 years and is moving to another job with the BBC.‌The long-serving TV presenter is set to front Radio 5 Live Breakfast, taking over from hosts Rachel Burden and Rick Edwards. The pair announced they would be stepping down in December.‌Rachel will now take the Monday to Wednesday mid-morning slot whilst Rick will instead be fronting Fighting Talk on Saturday mornings. Naga will take over on 5 Live Breakfast at the start of next year.‌In a statement, Naga said: "I'm thrilled to be joining 5 Live Breakfast in January. Live news, great conversations and connecting with audiences are what I love most about broadcasting, and 5 Live does all of that brilliantly."It has been a privilege to be part of the BBC Breakfast TV team for the past 17 years, working alongside an incredibly talented and hard-working group of journalists who are not only outstanding colleagues but also great friends.‌She added: "Presenting a flagship programme on 5 Live is an opportunity that was simply too good to pass up. It will take a huge amount of work and require 100% of my focus and energy, and I'm really looking forward to throwing myself into the role."Over the last five years, I've been privileged to build a relationship with 5 Live listeners on the mid-morning programme and help shine a light on the issues that matter most to them. I'm excited to build on that in the Breakfast slot and to start each day with our listeners every morning. Between now and January, I'll continue presenting the two programmes I love. I'm sure there will be plenty of news to cover, and it will very much be business as usual."In the BBC's annual report, it was revealed that Naga earned between £360,000 and £364,999 at the corporation last year. It marks the end of a turbulent year for the presenter, who was formally investigated for bullying.‌In November last year, BBC News reported that an HR adviser from consultancy firm PwC was also supporting their investigations as it looked into the culture at BBC Breakfast.Back in September, it had been reported that the editor of BBC Breakfast, Richard Frediani, had been cleared of bullying allegations following an investigation.Tim Davie, who has since resigned as BBC director-general, and BBC board chairman Samir Shah vowed in April to "draw a line in the sand" after an independent review found some "well-known names" were "not being held to account for poor behaviour".‌The workplace culture review, led by management consultant Grahame Russell from Change Associates, was launched in the wake of the furore over disgraced former newsreader Huw Edwards.Naga began her career at the BBC as a presenter on business programme Working Lunch in 2008, before moving to BBC Breakfast. She already presents a mid-morning show on BBC 5 Live in the weekdays.Naga's new co-host has yet to be announced, but her and the presenter will be broadcasting live from Salford for three days a week and then two days a week from London.Article continues belowLike this story?
