Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in the United States on Tuesday for closed-door talks with President Donald Trump at the White House, with anti-ballistic missile defense and broader strategic cooperation expected to top the agenda. Zelensky announced his arrival in a Telegram post, saying he would also hold talks with members of Trump’s team and others who could help strengthen Ukraine’s defense. “Meetings are scheduled with President Trump, his team and those who can support our defense,” Zelensky wrote. The Ukrainian president said discussions would focus on anti-ballistic capabilities and strategic cooperation between Ukraine and the United States. “Peace must come closer,” he added During their most recent meeting in Turkey earlier this month, Trump praised Zelensky for doing “an amazing job” and signaled support for allowing Ukraine to produce Patriot air-defense missiles. Kyiv urgently needs additional interceptors and systems capable of defending Ukrainian cities against continued Russian ballistic missile attacks. Zelensky was also expected to discuss urgent Patriot support and efforts to finalize a US-Ukraine drone agreement during his Washington visit.
