The FAA has proposed an airworthiness directive requiring inspections of seats on 453 US-registered Boeing 737 Max jets.

Incorrectly installed seat assemblies could disengage during turbulence or emergency landings, potentially injuring passengers and blocking evacuation aisles.

Nearly 2,300 737 Max jets operate worldwide, with 823 in the US, according to aviation intelligence firm IBA.

Each aircraft could have up to 69 affected seat assemblies, with inspections and repairs estimated at one hour each, requiring no parts.
