LONDON: Israel on Monday released 60 Palestinian prisoners detained during its ongoing military campaign in Gaza, marking the largest single release since exchanges carried out under a Hamas-Israel ceasefire agreement in October, according to Palestinian media.
The transfer, facilitated by the International Committee of the Red Cross, took place through the Kerem Shalom crossing into Khan Younis in southern Gaza, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.
The ICRC said the detainees were transported to Nasser Medical Complex, where efforts were made to restore contact with their families and support reunifications.
According to Erem News, the detainees had been held at Negev Prison. Medical teams carried out urgent examinations and provided immediate treatment for injuries and other conditions they said had been sustained during detention.
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office said many of the 60 prisoners who arrived were in deteriorating health.
