July 27 (UPI) -- Morgan Spector has landed the lead role in Netflix's upcoming Dan Brown series.

The streaming service announced Monday that Spector, 45, will play Harvard professor and symbologist Robert Langdon in the new show. Langdon was previously portrayed by Tom Hanks in the films The DaVinci Code, Angels & Demons and Inferno, based on Brown's works.

The new, untitled series takes place in the world of Brown's latest novel, The Secret of Secrets, which follows Langdon as he investigates a secret project in Prague, according to Brown's website.

Netflix said the show will see Langdon race "against ancient forces -- and the clock" to rescue his girlfriend and recover "her groundbreaking manuscript, the contents of which could forever change humanity's understanding of the mind."
