Kazem Jalali, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Russia, on Monday, July 27, described Ukraine’s attack on the ship Anna in the Caspian Sea as a “criminal act,” asserting that the vessel was “entirely civilian” and carrying “no military cargo.”
Dismissing reports and claims that the vessel was transporting military equipment to Russia, Jalali emphasized that the Anna was targeted while carrying purely commercial goods.
The ambassador also called on Moscow to respond to the strike, stating that, as a “friendly nation,” Russia is expected to deliver a serious response to what he termed “Ukraine’s criminal attacks.”
Ukrainian officials had previously announced that the Anna was targeted while transporting cargo linked to the Islamic Republic’s military capabilities to Russia.
