Mamelodi Sundowns wrapped up their pre-season training camp in Austria with a 1-1 draw against reigning Algerian champions MC Alger on Sunday.
The Brazilians now return home to prepare for the start of the Betway Premiership after finishing the tour with two draws and one defeat. MC Alger took the lead in the 55th minute through a superb strike from Zinedine Ferhat, threatening to condemn Sundowns to a second successive defeat.
However, Brayan Leon restored parity in the 74th minute as Miguel Cardoso’s side salvaged a draw in their final outing before the new campaign.
Earlier in the tour, Sundowns drew 1-1 with German side Hertha Berlin before suffering a 2-0 defeat to Saudi Pro League outfit Al Hilal. On paper, failing to win any of their three friendlies may appear concerning. But the results require context.
