Riley Barnes, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor, condemned recent executions in Iran and called for the release of all political prisoners in a post on the social media platform X.
“We condemn the Iranian regime’s execution of its own citizens—brave young Iranians targeted simply for raising their voices,” Barnes wrote.
He added that the United States stands with the Iranian people in demanding that the Islamic Republic “release all political prisoners and cease the execution” of individuals facing punishment for “peacefully exercising their human rights and fundamental freedoms.”
Concluding his message, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State emphasised: “The world is watching.”
In recent months, the implementation of death sentences in Iran has drawn widespread condemnation from international human rights organisations and Western government officials.
