DMK Youth Wing president and Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin on Monday met Vilathikulam DMK MLA G.V. Markandayan in Palayamkottai Central Prison, where he has been remanded in judicial custody after being arrested for his alleged derogatory and threatening comments against Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.During an informal chat with reporters after his brief meeting with Mr. Markandayan in the prison, Mr. Udhayanidhi said the MLA was happy and courageous to be in Palayamkottai Central Jail, where former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had been lodged. The TVK government was “foisting fake cases” against DMK functionaries and the leaders in a bid to threaten the party. While the TVK social media handles were abusing the DMK on social media platforms, the TVK government was registering cases round the clock against the DMK. Even though the TVK leaders and other functionaries were facing serious charges being levelled against them by their own party members, no actions were taken on these complaints.“Even after I raised these charges in the Assembly, the TVK government refuses to act on them. However, the TVK is working overtime on registering fake cases against the DMK and purchasing the AIADMK leaders and MLAs,” Mr. Udhayanidhi said. When asked for his reaction to Minister R. Nirmalkumar’s comments that Mr. Udhayanidhi did not know anything about Mekedatu dam issue, he abruptly stopped the interaction and left the spot.Former Speaker M. Appavu, former Minister P. Geetha Jeevan, Palayamkottai MLA M. Abdul Wahab and Tiruchendur MLA Anita R. Radhakrishnan accompanied Mr. Udhayanidhi. Published - July 27, 2026 08:34 pm IST
