Andhra Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party president P. V. N. Madhav on Monday said the BJP was committed to the inclusive development of minorities while upholding every citizen’s right to practise the religion of their choice.Addressing the BJP Minority Morcha State Executive Committee meeting in Vijayawada, he said religion was a personal matter, but the nation and the law must remain common to all.Making a case for the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Mr. Madhav said a common legal framework would ensure equal rights and opportunities for all citizens while eliminating discrimination and social divisions. He cited Indonesia as an example of a Muslim-majority country following a uniform civil code.Describing Hindutva as a civilisational ethos rooted in Indian culture, he said the BJP envisioned a society founded on equality, tolerance and universal human values.Paying tributes to former President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, Mr. Madhav urged minority youth, particularly Muslims, to pursue careers in the civil services, the armed forces and other sectors and contribute to nation-building.He said welfare schemes introduced by the Centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi were benefiting all eligible citizens irrespective of religion or caste, including poor Muslim families. Stressing the need to improve educational and employment opportunities, he called for greater focus on education, skill development and employment among Pasmanda Muslims. He also appealed to people to uphold communal harmony and work together for peace, unity and development.The meeting was presided over by BJP Minority Morcha State president Syed Basha.
