Earlier this year, I decided I had aged out of wearing shorts above the knee — particularly denim ones — for no reason beyond not liking how they look anymore. They’re still jeans, after all, and therefore too stuffy in the heat and too limited in versatility. More often than not these days, I choose longer, often vintage chino Bermudas; they’re airier and far more put together. But I’ve felt left out of the track-short posse and envied those flouncing around in them in the Lower East Side à la Carrie Bradshaw and Zoë Kravitz. Hard as I tried, I never found a swishy pair that didn’t make me look like a tween in PE class. And as someone with a strict rule of never wearing athleticwear anywhere outside working out, I more or less accepted my fate of living a track-shortless life.
