The Super Falcons of Nigeria begin their defence of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title when they face debutants Malawi in their opening Group C fixture on Tuesday in Rabat, Morocco.
Nigeria, who defeated hosts Morocco 3-2 in last year’s final to reclaim the continental crown, are chasing a record-extending 11th WAFCON title under head coach Justine Madugu. The Falcons’ triumph in 2025 was their 10th recognised WAFCON title, while the 1991 and 1995 African women’s championships are also counted in some records, taking their total to 12.
The Super Falcons will return to the same city where they produced one of the most memorable comebacks in the competition’s history, recovering from two goals down to beat Morocco in last year’s final and lift the trophy.
The expanded 2026 tournament, which features 16 teams, also doubles as a qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, with the four semi-finalists guaranteed places at the tournament in Brazil.
