Julian Finney via Getty ImagesJuly 27, 2026 Updated 6:23 am EDTArsenal have announced a list of nine first-year scholars, which includes Emerson Nwaneri, the younger brother of Ethan.Aged 15, as well as signing scholarship terms, Nwaneri has also signed a professional deal which kicks in upon his 17th birthday in August 2027.An England Under-15 international, Nwaneri is a midfielder who spent the second half of last season with Arsenal’s Under-18s but also made his debut for the Under-21s and the Under-19s in the UEFA Youth League.He also scored the winning goal in the Premier League Under-16 National finals last November.Speaking to Arsenal’s official website about his brother during the 2024-25 season, Ethan Nwaneri said: “He’s a midfielder, but he can play right-back as well. We’re really close, but I wouldn’t say we are that similar. He’s probably more outgoing than me — he’s the loud one!“There are three years between us so it would be really cool if we could both play in the Arsenal first-team together one day. We’ve spoken about that a bit and what that would be like, it’s something to aim for.”Arsenal’s other first-year scholars for the 2026-27 season include: Hakeem Abubakar (centre-back/left-back), Elyon Mbala (left-back), Daniel McCarron (centre-back), Jayden Oba (forward), Theo Odaji-Ukueko (midfielder), Angelinou Pedro (centre-back), Charlie Purdy (midfielder) and Joshua Sesay (winger).Oba and Sesay were part of the side who won the Premier League Under-16 National finals last season too. Oba assisted Nwaneri twice in Arsenal’s semi-final win over Blackburn Rovers, while Sesay also scored in the game.Nwaneri’s older brother Ethan was one of the four players invited to train with England’s World Cup squad in the U.S. in the build-up to the tournament. He has also travelled with the Arsenal squad for their pre-season fixture against Girona on Saturday.
