Kano State has unveiled plans to establish a state-owned commercial airline in a move expected to create employment opportunities for professionally trained indigenous pilots and strengthen the State’s participation in Nigeria’s aviation industry.
The proposed airline, expected to commence operations within the next year, is also aimed at preventing the loss of skilled aviation professionals who have completed expensive pilot training but remain without employment due to limited opportunities in the country’s aviation sector.
The plan was announced by Abba Kabir Yusuf, Governor of Kano State, during the 40th Executive Council meeting at the Government House, where he also received several awards, including a recognition from the Kano State Pilot Association for supporting members of the association to complete their aviation training.
A statement issued by Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Spokesperson to the Governor, said the planned Kano Airline would provide direct employment for Kano-trained pilots while contributing to the state’s economic growth.
Governor Yusuf said the State Government is committed to ensuring that the airline becomes operational within one year, adding that all necessary support would be provided to guarantee its successful establishment and long-term sustainability.
