A man has sued OpenAI after he said ChatGPT dissuaded him from going to the hospital over a serious health issue, manipulated him using references to his Christian faith, and offered him misleading health information that contributed to a near-fatal pulmonary embolism.
The lawsuit brought by 55-year-old pastor Scott Winters says ChatGPT-4o “repeatedly and insistently misdiagnosed” his symptoms, while urging him to “take it easy” and remain in his chair.
The long periods of seated inactivity are likely to have contributed to a massive pulmonary embolism Winters experienced last year.
