Marcos: Goal is half of cars on road in 2040 must be electric vehicles

MANILA, Philippines — The goal of the government is to usher in more electric vehicles (EVs) on the country’s roads, so that half of cars by 2040 will be electric-powered, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said on Monday.

Marcos, in his fifth State of the Nation Address (Sona), said that several vehicles that will be deployed to different cities outside Metro Manila — like in Davao City — will already be EVs.

Similarly, the president said that boats used for the Pasig River ferry system will also be EVs.

“It is our goal that by 2040, half of the vehicles are now EVs. The new Love Bus and articulated bus that will be used in Davao are EVs already,” Marcos said.
