Cash-Strapped Democrats Resort To Desperate Accounting Ploy: NYTThe Democratic National Committee’s money troubles are so dire that they’re asking vendors not to bill them until after November’s midterm elections, according to a report from The New York Times.Although Democrats appear to have the upper hand politically — as President Donald Trump contends with backlash from his war on Iran, his unpopular immigration crackdown and the ever-escalating cost of living — new financial disclosures show the DNC is $2 million in debt.Trump and company, on the other hand, are flush with cash. The president is sitting on top of a $400 million super PAC war chest. The Republican National Committee has nearly $130 million of its own to spend. The DNC’s financial situation could upend its chances of reclaiming control of the House and Senate. In June, the court determined that the administration had the ability to revoke protections that shielded Haitian and Syrian immigrants from deportation and enabled them to secure work permits. Those protections, which helped immigrants who fled crises in their home countries, may be terminated as soon as this week. In the wake of the court’s ruling, the administration is looking at ways to ramp up arrests and deportations, the outlet reported. When asked for comment, a DHS spokesperson told CBS News that it “does not discuss ongoing or future operations.”Read more from CBS News: Pentagon Alters The Way It Categorizes Iran War CasualtiesThis past weekend, the Pentagon changed the way it’s categorizing casualties in the U.S. war on Iran, according to multiple reports. Previously, casualties from the Iran war were tracked in a public-facing database on a page labeled “Operation Epic Fury.” In recent days, the Defense Department added a new page labeled “Overseas Operations,” which lists casualties that have occurred since July 7. The July deaths of four U.S. servicemembers in the Iran war were included on the “Overseas Operations” page rather than the one linked to “Operation Epic Fury.”This change occurred as the Trump administration faced scrutiny for abruptly removing the four servicemembers’ deaths from the Iran war’s casualty count last week. In addition, it coincided with the administration’s attempts to argue that it does not need Congressional authorization for the war on Iran because the actions taken after the ceasefire were separate from the previous operation. The move also raised concerns that it will be harder to track the full scope of the death and injury toll from the war on Iran. As ABC News noted, it wasn’t apparent whether all of the wounded people listed under “Overseas Operations” were injured from the Iran war or other military campaigns. The Pentagon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
