Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on Sunday, July 26, in response to a Ukrainian attack on an Iranian-linked vessel in the Caspian Sea, that Tehran considers the action a violation of the UN Charter and emphasized that the strike “cannot go unanswered.”
In a post on X, Araghchi wrote: “Zelenskyy has attacked an Iranian commercial vessel, killing a sailor. A blatant violation of the UN Charter, carried out at Israel’s behest to drag Europe into its war.”
He added that, during separate telephone conversations with European Union High Representative Kaja Kallas and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, he underscored that the Ukrainian president’s actions “cannot go unanswered.”
These remarks followed an announcement on Saturday, July 25, by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who stated that Ukrainian forces had achieved “very strong results” through long-range strikes in the Caspian Sea targeting a Russian warship and vessels used for military transport involving Iran.
Zelenskyy noted on X that the previous night’s operation had yielded significant results, though he provided no further details regarding the exact identities of the warship or the targeted vessels.
