Lithuania has seen no indication that Latvian carrier airBaltic plans to reduce its operations or withdraw from the country despite the airline’s financial difficulties, Transport Minister Juras Taminskas said Monday.
“We have not received any data, either from my Latvian counterpart or through other channels, suggesting that airBaltic plans to leave Lithuania or reduce the number of flights,” Taminskas told LRT RADIO.
Still, the minister said the government was preparing for possible scenarios by developing a contingency plan in case the airline scales back its operations or exits the Lithuanian market.
“We are reacting proactively, and today I am meeting with the management of Lithuanian Airports. They will present their initial vision and plan, and we will discuss how we would respond if the negative scenario begins to materialise,” Taminskas said.
He urged against alarm, saying Lithuania remains an attractive aviation market and that any capacity vacated by airBaltic would likely be filled quickly by other carriers.
