The DOJ incident happened past midnight while the suspected improvised explosive device was discovered near the Senate gate two hours before the opening of the second regular session of the 20th Congress
MANILA, Philippines – Two security incidents were reported just outside two government institutions on the day of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 27: an explosion near the entrance of the Department of Justice (DOJ) building and, hours later, a suspected improvised explosive device found near the Senate gate.
At around 12:17 am on Monday, July 27, an explosion, believed to have been caused by an improvised explosive device, was reported near the DOJ entrance along Padre Faura Street in Ermita, Manila.
“Investigation is ongoing to determine the source, nature, and circumstances surrounding the explosion,” the DOJ said in a statement.
“The situation is currently under control, and the DOJ compound remains secure. The DOJ remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of its personnel and the general public, while supporting a comprehensive and impartial investigation,” it added.
