INEC recently announced that the presidential and National Assembly elections would be held on January 16, 2027, while governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections would take place on February 6, 2027.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC) has criticised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)'s timetable for the 2027 general elections, expressing dissatisfaction with the schedule and urging the electoral body to immediately reopen Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).
In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by its chairman, Agena Robert Ande, the party said although it acknowledged INEC's constitutional responsibility to publish an election timetable, the commission must ensure that eligible Nigerians are not disenfranchised.

The electoral body had earlier scheduled the elections for February 20 and March 6, 2027, but revised the dates following the enactment of the Electoral Act 2026 and concerns raised by stakeholders over a possible clash with the Ramadan period.
