Banyana Banyana’s quest for continental glory begins on Monday when they take on Tanzania in their opening Group B fixture at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The match marks the first step in South Africa’s bid to return to the summit of African women’s football after narrowly missing out on the podium at the previous edition. On paper, Banyana will start as favourites (kick-off 7pm).
South Africa boast significantly more experience at major tournaments and have become regular contenders on the continent over the past decade. Their squad also features several players with experience in top leagues abroad and at Fifa Women’s World Cups.
However, Tanzania arrive in Morocco determined to spring an early surprise. The East Africans have steadily improved in recent years and earned their place at the tournament through an impressive qualifying campaign.
