UAE Team Emirates star wrapped up fifth crown to tie all-time record in Paris on Sunday

Tadej Pogacar won his fifth Tour de France title, joining cycling legends Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Miguel Indurain.

The 27-year-old Slovenian has now finished on the podium all seven times he has competed in the race, winning five.

Eddy Merckx, now 81, predicted Mr Pogacar would surpass the shared record, saying the UAE Team Emirates-XRG rider would "soon break our record for Tour victories."

Mathieu van der Poel claimed the final stage on the Champs-Elysées, outsprinting rivals after breaking clear with Pogacar on the Butte de Montmartre climb.
