Yuki Iwamura / Associated PressJuly 26, 2026 Updated 6:16 pm EDTNEW YORK — Freddy Peralta acknowledged his start Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers was “probably” his last with the New York Mets, as the right-hander figures to be traded between now and the trade deadline Aug. 3.Peralta is slated to start for the Mets on Friday against the Miami Marlins.Asked whether the thought crossed his mind that Sunday could be his final start with the Mets, Peralta said, “I know it probably is.”“I have to focus and keep giving the best of myself,” he continued. “If it happens, it happens. I’m thankful and grateful to be part of this organization. I know so far I’ve let them down. After he allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits in four labor-intensive innings, Peralta’s ERA sits at 4.99 for the season. That’s more than two runs higher than it was last season with the Milwaukee Brewers.It’s been a real slog for Peralta in the summer. His last quality start came June 3 in Seattle. Since then, he’s pitched to a 7.34 ERA and averaged just 4 2/3 innings per start.“We haven’t done what we expected to do, in general, but especially myself,” Peralta said Sunday. “I know I can be way better than this. I still believe in myself. I was born to be a winner and not a loser. I think I have a lot in me, a lot to show. I know it can change because I still have time to make a change.”In that vein, Peralta was encouraged by the shape and life of his fastball Sunday.“It reminded me a little of the best version of myself,” he said.
